SERBIAN ENGLISH THROUGH THE LENS OF THE ELF RESEARCH PARADIGM

Linguists around the world have been researching international English for a long time, forming three paradigms of thought and research – as an International Language (EIL), World (WE) Lingua Franca (ELF). The aim this paper is to present review conducted so far regarding in Serbia and, thus, offer insight into inner workings Serbian English, all light ELF research. Bearing mind that within paradigm framework not carried out often Serbia, studies presented view variety learners’ language. elimination contrastive was taken basic criterion literature selection, which made it possible compare linguists’ with framework. Studies scope phonetics/phonology pragmatics were found. As regards phonetics phonology, papers only two authors fit established criterion. findings their confirm speakers acquired phonetic features necessary communication, i.e. core. Nonetheless, pragmatic involve spoken corpora, while encompass questionnaires interviews. Therefore, there much be discovered about English. Conducting further would allow comparison standards unveil those linguistic elements students need acquire order participate communication more efficiently.
